CONVERSION TOOL

Conversion of an In Touch application to TOPKAPI SCADA is now much easier than before with a new utility software, TOPKAPI Converter.

Just released by AREAL, this tool uses the .CSV files generated by In Touch's DBDump function; it performs automatic generation of the TOPKAPI Database, processing the following information:
- Tagname
- Comment
- Type and format
- Text assigned to Boolean values
- Alarm groups and logging parameters

A wizard assists the operator to reorganize alarms levels and events groups. Sort and overwrite functions enable to quickly adapt the processing features to the application's context; thus, the new application's structure will be renewed, reducing maintenance work and total cost of ownership.

The conversion does not apply to graphic displays, as experience showed that results of graphics conversion were most often far below expectations. Graphic screens are manually caught by screen shots, possibly improved, and recorded as background static pictures. Animated items are also frequently caught as bitmaps (or re-created as vectorial objects), animated and put in a library; re-creation is limited to a model of each item, and further modifications of the library object will be propagated throughout the application to all instances of this object.
Again, this work will be an opportunity to improve the application's structure, ease maintenance tasks and reduce cost of ownership.

Initial troubleshooting of the application will take advantage of the automatic conversion (as the amount of errors attached to manual data entry is reduced) and of a better application structure.

The converter program is available for free to any TOPKAPI user.
