City of STRASBOURG

30 000 points in CTM

In 1996, the city of Strasbourg decided to implement a centralised control management system for its buildings.

A survey performed by the Technical Facilities Service of the Urban Community of Strasbourg, together with CEFIO, outlined the three fundamental points for the choice of SCADA system, and lead to choosing TOPKAPI :

Ability to manage 40,000 information points with an excellent response time, with a proven model

Ability to manage the remote sites to be connected to the switched telephone network, while time stamping the variables at the source

Software structure enabling very fast duplication of the stations

Now operating, the application consists of two processing stations, and one client station having remote access to both of the previous. The highest load station processes the following for 41 buildings (City Hall, Opera house, Schools, Swimming Pools, etc.): heating and air conditioning sanitary hot water, mechanically controlled ventilation, the lifts, fire and gas detection, as well as the various technical facilities, while ensuring the management of temperature instructions, boiler time programmes and cascades. With a total number of variables over 30,000 in one station, the supervisor’s response times (around one second) are much shorter than the incompressible times related with communication media.

The Technical Facilities Service agents of the Urban Community of Strasbourg, remote management section, who have fully developed the application, are particularly satisfied with the easy learning and fast implementation of TOPKAPI. They will now be connecting other buildings and integrating other compatible hardware.

To date, AREAL has developed communication drivers for Johnson Control and Landis & Staefa.
